Food For Friends

A well-balanced, nutritious meal is a vital way for those with HIV and AIDS to stay as healthy as possible, but in the midst of a debilitating disease or life’s daily struggles, appointments, treatments and other responsibilities, finding the time and money for such meals is often impossible.
The Food For Friends (FFF) Program of NO/AIDS Task Force has been supplying groceries and home delivered meals to HIV infected and affected individuals in the greater New Orleans area for over 14 years. NO/AIDS Task Force has been serving the community for over 25 years.

Even though the Food For Friends kitchen and pantry were destroyed by Katrina in 2005, over 500 meals a week are currently being delivered to clients who are home bound or otherwise unable to prepare their own meals or shop. Over 23,000 meals were delivered through the Home Delivered Meals Program in 2009. Presently volunteers deliver meals every Tuesday and Thursday.
Through the generosity of donations from many friends and Second Harvest, hundreds of clients shop for groceries and personal care items every month in the Food For Friends Pantry. In 2009 The Pantry at Food For Friends distributed over 73,000 lbs of groceries to hundreds of clients.
Five AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs) in the region refer eligible HIV positive clients to FFF for pantry and home delivered meal service. The pantry is accessed once a month and home delivered meals are delivered to the client’s home on Tuesday and Thursday every week. For more information on eligibility and accessing either the pantry or home delivered meals you can call 504-821-2601 and ask for case management.
Food For Friends is always grateful for any monetary, food or product donations and volunteers able to help.
